Separation.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18, 1 John 2:15-17

Separation is an act or instance of separating oneself or a state of being separated.

It is a line or a point of parting, a gap, hole, rent.

The synonyms of separation also means: a break, departure, detachment, disconnection, disengagement, disjunction, dissociation, dissolution, disunion, division, divorce, leave-taking, gap, rupture, split-up.

From our definitions and synonyms we have been able to define separation as an overall act of isolating ourselves.

As Christians God is particular about our lives and how we live it, and with who are we living it with. God specifically gave us some warnings/instructions in the first five books of the Bible, of things, people and places we must separate ourselves from.

From our text 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, we are able to understand certain principles of God. This is making us to understand that some things will not work together because they are two opposite things heading in an opposite direction. E.g. Light & Darkness.

This series of Teachings will make us understand that separation is not just a thing of the mind; it’s also a physical achievement.

These teachings will also make us understand that our flesh and spirit must work together for us to be able to live a life pleasing to God.

God Has given us lots of promises 2 Corinthians 7:1, but there are conditions attached to them. 2 Corinthians 6; 14-16.

The base lines for these blessings are Separation/Holiness.

– Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14-16.

It is wrong for Gods people to join alliance with the wicked because they belong to different and opposite camp.

Our relationship and life style must be with caution, in accordance to Gods principles. We as children of God should move along with Gods children. ‘Like Begat Like’.

We should not yoke ourselves with friendship and acquaintance with wicked men and unbelievers. Although we cannot wholly avoid seeing, hearing and being with such people, yet we should never choose them for our closet circles.

It’s impossible to join righteousness and unrighteousness, light and darkness, fire and water. What comfortable communions have these two opposite things?

Come out from among them and be ye separate from them and touch no the Unclean things. 2 Corinthians 6:17

The passage clearly states that we should come out from among them from among them and keep a long distance/gap so we won’t be contaminated.

Touch not the unclean things so we won’t be defiled.

Separation from the things of the World.

Be crucified to the world; be mortified to the things, affairs and enticement of it. Galatians 2:20.

Our love should be reserved for God only.

Our hearts is narrow and cannot contain both loves.

The world draws down the heart from God. So the more the love of the world prevails, the more the love of God dwindles and decays.

The love of this world is not form the father (God Almighty). There is a great affinity and alliance between this world and the flesh. This world intrudes and encroaches upon the flesh and there by acting against Gods plans and purpose for our lives.

The things of this world are divided into 3.

· The lust of the flesh 1 John 2:16.

It is subjectively the humor and appetite of indulging fleshy pleasures and objectively all those things that excite and inflame the pleasures of the flesh.

· The lust of the eyes.

The eyes are delighted with treasures of.

~ Lust of women Matthew 5:28.

~ Eyes full of adultery, even men with men and women with women. 2 Pt 2:14, Rom 1:18-28.

~ Covetousness Ps 10:8.

~ All things Desired. Eccl 2:10.

~ All kinds of evil Mt 6:23; 7:22.

~ Idol worshiping. Ezk 6:9; 18:6-15.

· Pride of life.

Which are: Self-righteousness Job 32:1; Position Gen 8:5, Ezk 28:5, 1 Tim 3:6; Power Lev 26:19; Riches Ps 39:6.

The lust and appetite to these things must be mortified and subdued.

1 John 2:17 says “ the world passes away and the lust thereof”

But “he that does the will of the father abides forever”

Finally:

2 Corinthians 6:18. God Has promise to be a father to them and they will be His children. What greater honor and happiness can be compared to this?
