DO YOU LOVE ME MORE THAN THESE? JOHN 21:15-17

It’s Easter period a time in which we celebrate the Death and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. For us Christian, it is a special time and it does hold a special place in our hearts, having great significance.

The faith and hope we have in God are all because Jesus died for our sins and He has risen from the dead. He led captivity captive, liberated men and gave eternal life to us. This great gift gives us the grace to have a better relationship with God our father.

After the fall of Man we needed a new start and new life, Jesus came to cement that new beginning. Reconciling man back to God.

THE FALL OF MAN & MAN’S RECONCILIATION WITH GOD.

For this reason, we call Jesus

“mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. Hebrews 12:24”.

And in Ephesians 2:14 “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;”

“JESUS THE MEDIATOR OF THE NEW COVENANT.” Hebrews 12:24.

 

On that fateful Good Friday when our Lord Jesus was crucified, it was as if nothing will work. All hope was lost until our Lord Jesus arose from the dead on the resurrection Sunday and showed Himself before them.

The first time was in John 21. Simon Peter the right-hand man of Jesus decided to go fishing since he was a man of high reputation among the disciples. The rest decided to join him. They worked that night and caught nothing. Jesus later appeared to them for the third time, at first they did not recognize him. John the beloved the disciple whom Jesus loved, recognized Him and said unto Peter. “It is the Lord.” John 21:7.

The disciples gathered together to have a wonderful time, and Jesus asked Peter a very simple question. Vs 15-17.

Peter Do You Love Me More Than This???

15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

God demonstrated His Love towards us for allowing His only begotten son to die for us John 3:16. This time around God around Jesus gave us the great commission, to spread His love to every corner of the world. This pure and undiluted agape love is spread through the gospel of Christ.  John 16:15-18, Matthew 28:16-20.

Do You Love Me More Than This? Jesus asked that question because he wanted the His disciples to see and understand how important the great commission was. Jesus went to the cross; He has played His own part it is now our turn to do the same. Our command is to go into the world and preach the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Peter went fishing and the other disciples joined him, Jesus promised them that He would make them fishers of men and not of fishes.

Jesus asked Peter the same question three times, “Simon Son of Jonah, Loveth Me More Than These? Simon Peter replied and said Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee.

Jesus replied and said, “Feed my Lambs, and the last two answers were Feed my Sheep.”

Jesus needed to be sure of what Peter would do in His absence. If we really understand the message of Easter, then we will spread the good news of the gospel. Jesus was telling His disciples about the great commission. He gave us salvation and He expects us that have known the truth to shine His light to all corners of the world.

Easter is all about love, let us spread the love of Christ abroad.  It is a season when the promise of the Holy Spirit and its era was made many years ago.

John 16:7

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

We are in the dispensation of grace. We are saved by grace, not by our works according to Ephesians 2:8-10.

We have the “THE BORN AGAIN EXPERIENCE: Ephesians 2:1-10.” But this experience we have encountered with Jesus should not be for ourselves alone. We must tell of His love and good news to everyone around us. The power of Christianity is Manifested in Jesus and the Hope of Heaven is found in Him. But our comforter is the Gift Jesus left for us. This gift is the person of the Holy Spirit. He gives power to Luke 24:49.

Finally, folks the command of the great commission is our goal and duty, Mark 16:15-18. We only need to believe, because the signs and wonders shall follow us.

WHO SHALL I SEND & WHO WILL GO FOR ME? Isaiah 6:8

Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

After king Uzziah died, I prophet Isaiah saw God for the first time. The terrible connecting between the Prophet Isaiah and King Uzziah is broken. When the eyes of Isaiah were opened he said in verse 5: Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.

Like I said in our previous topic (THE PEOPLE YOU SHOULD MEET AND THE PEOPLE YOU MUST MISS), certain people or groups of people should not be in our lives if we really want to become who God intends us to be.

If God was looking for a man to send in the days of Isaiah, imagine what is happening in our days now. The question is, was Isaiah not a prophet of God? Were there no other prophets during that time who could still stand in the gap? God needed a middleman.

Ezekiel 22:30. And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. God said: “But I Found None!”

It doesn’t mean these prophets or servant of God were great sinner or fake. Though some were, the good ones were not just up to the standard God was looking for.

We will look at these four key points they are systematically ordered.

  1. After King Uzziah died prophet Isaiah saw God. This is strange but if you study the chronicles of the Kings you will understand who King Uzziah really was and what he did. Isaiah was a prophet in his times, king Uzziah was doing the job of a prophet/priest. Many people are occupying the wrong offices in life, people do things they are not supposed to do.

Success in every ramification is all about correct positioning.

To get God into your boat you must be doing what He endorses. You cannot be a friend of the devil and you expect God to speak and empower you for a great mission Wrong! They view of so many is blocked, like they are working under a closed heave because they operate in the wrong base/place where God will not show up. The spirit of Uzziah is common and until that spirit is terminated in our lives we won’t really be able to achieve what God intends for us.

 As soon as the prophet Isaiah saw God, he realized that he was a man with an Unclean Lips Isaiah 6:5. How does the Eye correlate to the Mouth? Why did Isaiah say he’s a man with Unclean Eyes?  It is what you see that you are bold enough to speak about.

 

  1. An angel brought live coal in his hands from the altar, and laid it upon his mouth saying;

Isaiah 6:7

“See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

The eyes influence the life of a man, what you see all the time becomes a part of you. What you see always have great control over your actions.

Job said; “I made a covenant with my eyes!” Job 31:1.

David said; “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” Psalm 199:18.

Apostle Paul said; “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,”

When your sight is correct, your vision and purpose becomes outstanding. You see what God wants you to see, understand your mistakes and errors. This narrows you down to a fulfilled life.

 

  1. Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord. Do you know why Isaiah could not hear from God all this time? Which with a mouth will he use to answer God? The unclean lips?

If we follow look at it from this perspective, He saw God, He knew He was Unclean, He asked for Forgiveness, An Angel came and Purified his Lips and Atone for his Sins, He could now Hear God.

 

  1. The final point could only have happened because there was a cascade from verse 1. Which was: See God (Have an Encounter with Him); Understand and Acknowledge your Sins; Be Purged, Purified and made Whole; then finally you will Have the Father Son Relationship with God when you can speak with Him and relate with Him.

Knowing the mind and plans of God for your life comes only when you have this unique relationship with Him.

Finally, dearly beloved of God. Isaiah had an encounter with God, this lead to many beneficial things in his life. All these happened step after step, meaning our God is God of Order and Precision. According to Isaiah 28:10 Precepts must be upon precept. God is looking for a generation that He can be proud of. I so much believe that we can be that people. That man and woman, that boy and that girl that will boldly stand in the Gap.

Before this can happen, we need to put off the old man, take away that garment that us stained with sin. Lay aside every weight and sin that we easily fall into.

Prophet Isaiah realized this, and his life changed and never remained the same. From chapter 6 to chapter 66 (60 chapters later), Isaiah had wonderful stories and beautiful messages of restoration; prophesies for generations to come, He talked about our Savior Jesus Christ. All these event transpired because he had a dealing with God.

We can have this same story; we only need to be available. Let us yield to the call of God, and remember these four steps.

 

His visitation and power; Acknowledging our mistakes and the repenting heart; His purifying power to purge us and make us whole; Hearing His voice and call; Our resounding Yes and boldly professing Him.

THE PEOPLE YOU SHOULD MEET AND THE PEOPLE YOU MUST MISS


Isaiah

Welcome to the new year, if you are reading this post, well I congratulate you, you made it.

The journey of life involves certain rules and regulations to be strictly followed if we want to have good success in all areas of our lives. There are certain people God has ordained for you to meet in life, likewise there are people also you must miss in life in order to attain your God given destiny.

Taking our example from the Bible, we see lots of people who became successful because of the people they met, and those that failed because of the people they met as well.

Joseph was announced to the Pharaoh because he met someone in jail, David survived the trying times of King Saul because he met Jonathan that gave his life in place of his. Samson ended his ministry and life because he met Delilah, Rehoboam the son of King Solomon lost ten kingdoms to Jeroboam because of the friends he met that advised him. Our first Text is a very renowned prophet, one of the greatest among the major prophets.

Isaiah 6:1

 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.”

The story of Isaiah and King Uzziah is a rare and strange story, to understand this you need to start from the first chapters when you get to the chapter 6, you read the verse 1-8 and meditate on it, there you see the real message of the story.

Uzziah was a king who started well in the beginning, but his later days was not good enough 2 Chronicles 26. Uzziah did start well but the strong man called pride entered into his life. He met the people he was supposed to miss and missed those he should have met. Isaiah was a Prophet in the era of King Uzziah, notice what the Bible says.

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I Isaiah saw the Lord.”

The simple questions are why didn’t Isaiah see God during the reign of King Uzziah? What happened during the time of Uzziah was alive? What event transpired during chapter 1-5?

 The answer lies in who you meet and who you miss, this has a great impact on your success and the kind of life you will live.

The connection between Isaiah and King Uzziah was a “Terrible Connection!” Uzziah was the closed Heaven between Isaiah and God, like a blockage between Heaven and Isaiah.

What is a Terrible Connection?

It is a killer at the edge of greatness, a carefully manipulated bond that should never have occurred. It is a wasting bond, a time waster, an emptier. It is planned carefully to obstruct one from achieving their divine goal. A terrible connect is made to waste, empty and render useless an individual. There are countless people who had encounters with the wrong people and wished they did not meet them.

Life is all about who you meet and who you miss, success is all about correct positioning and the right connection.

You came into this world because your parents met each other, either good or bad I leave that for you to decide and judge.

Your purpose in life is to fulfill a destiny, If you Miss Jesus, “Life will be a Shattered Dreams.”

In our journey through life, we will meet certain kinds and groups of people.

You will meet those that will:

  • Inspire you to greatness.
  • Will make you great.
  • Leave you the way they met you.
  • Impact you positively.
  • Impact your life negatively.
  • Those that will De-anoint you.

Uzziah was de-anointing Isaiah, this is a serious matter though overlooked and kept aside. The people we associate with influences the outcome of our lives. Many people have lost their lives, violated in every ramification because the met someone that took them somewhere and connected them somewhere, which triggered tragic event in their lives which could have been avoided assuming they did not meet them.

As Christians don’t just choose people for what hear, assume or see in them. Looks can be deceiving, make sure you know their right standing with God and be sure about it. The right people will propel you to greatness, the wrong people will lead you down the drain.

Finally, dearly beloved and my wonderful youth; Marry the right person so you can achieve your goals. Pray to meet the right one for you, and please pray harder so you miss the wrong person. Watch and Pray with your eyes open. Marriage is deep, and for those with a great destiny, the enemy is working tirelessly to cause them to make the wrong choice.

Abraham, Hannah, Moses, Joshua, Deborah, and others. They married who God intended for them.

“If you want to fulfill destiny then marry the right person.”

You are who you marry because two shall become one! My unmarried fellas, please FLEE FORNICATION; the Bible says Flee, not Preach

Don’t play with your Destiny on the Altar of Pleasure, you will not get it Back.

Don’t be a prayer warrior at the pillar, like Samson in Judges 16:20-31. Don’t start praying when all is destroyed. Don’t find God when He’s already gone. It will be too late to cry when the Head is Cut-Off.

Pray to God so He reveals to you who really are, this narrows your perspective in life, and lead you to the right person with ease. If God is telling and giving you sign about your association, yield to God and obey Him. Don’t get into what God is not involved in.

Samson met the wrong person and she finished it, Ahab met the devil called Jezebel and she wasted him.

Watch your associations, carefully select your friends, pray hard for your partner, Listen to God and Obey His Word. Doing all these God will Save you from every Terrible Connection.

THAT I MAY KNOW HIM. Phil 3:1-20


Him

You can be attending church for all your life and still not know Jesus. Your parent might have given birth to you inside the church, baptize you there; you grew up there in the church; later joined the choir and started singing in an Angelic manner; joined the youth ministry, yet you don’t know who the Man of Galilee Is. A preacher once preached for over 20 years and did not know Jesus was.

You might have definitely heard the name Jesus but the power in the Name might not know you.

 We need to understand this… Jesus Christ warned us about the danger of professing without faith. Matthew 7:21-23.

Some people claim to know Jesus but deep down in the type of life they live, they do not. Some confess Christ secretly but never profess Him openly.

To confess is very easy, but professing is more of a strong declaration that Jesus is Lord.

 Many tale-evangelist and many mega pastors do not mention the name of Jesus anymore… they only call the name of God. Like Seriously!!! Phil 2:5-11. The vs. 9-11 says,

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

 Many people these days say “ I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN; I ONLY HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD” My friend please take a Sit! You cannot have a Relationship with the Father without going through the Son. John 14:6.

 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

 Jesus said He is the only way to the Father, knowing God means having an encounter with Jesus first. If you obey God, it means your know Jesus, this implies you are with fellowship with the father. Having a Relationship with Jesus makes you automatically a Christian. This means you are Christ-Like, of course, we are not perfect, but the bible says,

“ Perfecting Holiness in the Fear of God”

As a Christian though some claim they are not, but you are called a Christian, or you’re a Christian because you’re “Christ-Like” meaning that you do everything in the way and manner Christ did it.

Having a relationship with Christ Jesus is a must priority. In john 15:1-26, Jesus was telling His disciples about associating with Him, which was their only chance of becoming an overcomer.

Many people think theology is all about Jesus. Never! There is no searching of His understanding. Obedience is a must. If we really love God we should gladly do His will.

You have to bring forth the fruits that are associated with Jesus.

You can’t tell me you’re a Christian (though you say you’re), ok agree but please where are your fruits?

 Your association with Christ will rob you of a lot of things, freedom from being and acting like the world. That’s the meaning of taking up your cross and following Jesus. Matthew 16:24.

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”

 You deny yourself first, take up your cross and follow Christ. Then you will understand Philippians 3:10-11.

“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.”

 The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch in Syria. The world looked at them and saw Jesus in them, they saw the characteristics of Christ, and they saw the attributes of our Lord Jesus.

They said, “ These are the Followers of Christ.” Acts 11:21.

We need this kind of identity, the world needs to know us and sees only Jesus in us. From the way we act, behave, to the way we speak. Christ must be seen, no double life, no faking it. Jesus Only, “Jesus Ever, Jesus All.”

We need to get back to basis. Galatians 2:20-21 talks about being crucified with Christ… Christ lives in us… the live in which we now live, we live only by faith of the Son of God, who love us and gives Himself for us… this implies we must be bold to talk about Jesus.

Preach Him, Live Him, and be Proud of Him.

When the chief priest and rulers of the people threatened the disciples never to preach Christ again. Instead of staying silent, they prayed for Boldness and Preached Christ even more than ever before. They could do this because they have had an encounter with Jesus. Acts 4.

In John 15:15, Jesus said we are no more servants but friends. Everything He knew about His father, He has made it known to us, He chose us. All this signifies that we carry the Traits and the DNA of God.

Jesus said, “ Greater will we do.” John 14:12.

We will get all these benefits if we associate ourselves with Christ.

Your spiritual leaders and clergymen won’t save you, only Jesus will. We need to know God for ourselves, self-righteousness will fail us.

Remember in the last days, many events will occur. We’re already in the perilous times, people love to serve only themselves. Covetousness is real, people boast in themselves than in the Lord.

We should never have a form of godliness and deny the power thereof.

Let’s come together and put away all these negative attributes and put on the character of Christ which is found in Gal 5:22-26. We need to crucify the flesh with the affections and lust thereof; pick up our cross and follow Jesus.

Finally, 2 Timothy 3:2.

Endure Hardship like a Good Soldier of Christ. Don’t just partake of the benefit, be part of the hardship. Then you will understand your place and purpose in Christ Jesus.

THE PREACHER’S UTMOST PRAYER. 1 Corinthians 9:16-27

16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me.

18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.

19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

20 And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;

21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.

22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.

24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

O’ Lord see me through, Jesus see me through, there is a race that I must run, there are victories to be won! Oh God give me power every hour to be true!!! Lord Jesus see me through!!

As ordained servants of God, there is just one goal. The crown on the head and the voice that says “ Well Done and Welcome Home.”

But how do we achieve this goal? Every true believer is a minister of God and a preacher of the gospel. May I remind you, some people were specifically called, some called themselves and some was just simple availability.

Matthew 19:12.

For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

But I tell you, God Equips the Called, He never calls the Equipped! Availability is a key ingredient in the call of God.

“If God Calls you, He will Provide for the Vision.”

Apostle Paul is our example in this study, and our study is divided into three subheadings.

The Pattern of Self-Denial, 1 Corinthians 9:16-19.
As Christians, preaching the gospel of Christ and everything Christ stands for is unavoidable. We are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.

Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

To some, we might look like fools and sound stupid, but whence we know our target and know that our goal is to win them to Christ, we ought to remain steadfast not boasting about it, nor feeling “ I have arrived.” It is a must as true Christians to preach the gospel.

1 Corinthians 1:18

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God.

 Jesus Christ said; if anyone wants to be His servant, he must first denial everything including his own self, pick up his cross and follow Jesus. Luke 14:25-33, Luke 9:23.

Self-denial is a must to become a true child of God. We have to deny ourselves a lot of things, from the way speak, to the way we act. We are now a new creature; our old lifestyles have been nailed to the cross.

There’s a reward for selfless service to God and mankind. We should never abuse the gift of God upon our lives. “ Those who preach the gospel must live the gospel”

 

Serving all men, 1 Corinthians 19-23.
As workers in the vineyard, we ought to remember,

“Your Goal is very much more Important than the Role you Play.”

If we have this at the back of our mind, certainly we will preach Christ effortlessly and selflessly. Our utmost desire for should be the desire of total flexibility. I mean we have to be flexible to change in accordance to God’s words and will. Apostle Paul became four different persons on four different occasions.

And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might, by all means, save some.

But notice, he was still under God’s commandments and rules. He did not break any of them to please men.

He talks about becoming a Jew so that he could win the Jews; those under the law so he could win them; those without the law; and to the weak he became weak. At the end of the day, he became all things to men, in pursuit of saving them. As fellow laborers in the vineyard, we need to study our situation before we can lead the situation.

We need to add value to our work as ministers before God is going to give us direction.

Striving for a Crown, 1 Corinthians 26-27.
This is it!

I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

There is a race to run, a crown to be worn. If we truly understand this, our walk with God will have a huge impact on our service towards the propagation of the gospel of Christ. We have to run with Focus, Train & Compete with Passion, and Fight with Purpose and Master our Flesh.

Mr. flesh is one entity that refuses to let go without a fight. Romans 7:15-25, Apostle Paul was talking about the power of the flesh confronting him and trying to prevent him from serving God.

Romans 7:15

What I don’t understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise.

Galatians 5:16 give us the Antidote to kill the flesh, we have to walk only in the spirit and do the things that are spiritually minded.

“Watch & Pray!” notice the bible says, Watch first. We need to observe every step we are taking and everything we are doing. Focus on the high calling of God in Christ Jesus lay aside every weight of sin and never pamper our weaknesses. Deal with our internal rubbish, confront our foundation because it will spring up and destroy our calling. We need to set our affections on the things that are above, mortify our body, (fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness). We need to put off the old man, which is lying, anger, lust, greed, pride, and filthy communication. Only then can we safeguard ourselves. It is compulsory we put on the new man and practice charity (love), which is the golden rule in becoming perfect in our walk with Christ. This guarantees our finishing well. Col 3:1-17.

Finally, continue in prayer and watch in the same with thanksgiving. Please take heed to the ministry, which you have receive from God, that you may fulfill it.

Have great Passion for the Work, which exceeds our Position, Gains and personal Preferences. Remain fixed on our Mission and Flexible in our Methods in Achieving it.

Our goal and target are hearing those sayings from God when we have gone the last mile of the way, and we are resting at the close of the day. We only want to hear God say.
