THE MIXED MULTITUDE.

Life is all about right connection and positioning. We cannot rise above the company we keep!

 Exodus 12: 37-38

And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children.

And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.

Ezekiel 33:31.

“And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much l love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

This present generation has a great issue to deal with, lots of sad events have transpired as a result of having the wrong people in one’s circle.

Life is all about right connection and positioning. We cannot rise above the company we keep!

  1. THE MIXED MULTITUDE IN THE TIME OF MOSES:

During the time of Moses when God’s people were leaving bondage, some uninvited guests accompanied them. These guests caused the people of Israel to sin against God.

These were people who had No encounter with the God of Israel, No Promise of Canaan as their focus, No Covenant with God, and No law of God to guide them.

They didn’t leave Egypt because they were tired of living in Egypt and longing for the Redemption of God, rather they followed Israel out of curiosity after they saw the manifestation of God’s Power and for fear of the unknown in Egypt. They are people who left Egypt without Egypt leaving them. Numbers 11: 4-6.

  1. THE MIXED MULTITUDE IN THE CHURCH TODAY:

a) These are pretenders who clothe themselves in the sheep’s clothing but are wolves Matthew 7:15. In other words, they are Double-Faced people who carefully hide in the midst of God’s people as we earlier said.

b) They are those with Spit loyalty coming to the presence of God, yet never fully committed to Him. Ezekiel 33:31: 2 Tim 3:7.

c) They are those who always long for or look back to the things they left behind whenever things grow tough. Genesis 19: 17, 26; Numbers 11:5.

d) They are those who grumble and complain first when hardship arises. Numbers 14: 1-10.

e) These are always the source of trouble, discouragement, and discord amongst the brethren. Romans 16: 17; 2 Tim 4: 14.

f) They are not teachable rather they bring in their own vision to cause division. 2 Tim 4: 3-4.

g) These are fault finders and Not-Path Finders. John 12: 1-8.

h) These are the Tares among the wheel who will NEVER be content to simply walk away, quietly return to Egypt where they rightly belong or be patient to see God’s Salvation: rather they will sow seeds of discontent, doubt, and unbelief amongst those who genuinely belong to God.

The true believer is called into a life of separation. Jesus while praying for this disciple and the church, prayed that we are separated from the world. 2 Corinthians 6: 14-18; John 15: 18-19, 17:14-16.

We can know the Mixed Multitude by the fruits they bear and avoid them. Romans 16: 17.

Therefore, let our eyes be fixed on Jesus who ALONE is the Author and Finisher of our Faith and NOT look so much at other people as our example lest we are weary and faint.

Hebrews 12: 2-3; Galatians 6:4, Philippians 2: 12.

NOTE: Remember the mixed multitude didn’t leave Egypt because they were tired of living in Egypt. They were not longing for Salvation or Redemption of God rather they followed Israel because they were curious to know what will happen to Israel after they left Egypt and also because they were not sure of what will happen to Egypt after had left.

BEWARE! The Mixed Multitude has NO promise of Canaan so, they stand to lose Nothing and they will Stop at Nothing to hinder those on their way to their promised land.
